Sugar be Damned

When I woke up this morning, I felt good. It was raining but I didn't have to go to work so I was feeling pretty good. I took the hubby to the doctor in the morning, we went out to lunch and got myself a haircut in the afternoon. I was having a good day and then it all changed. I received the test results from my recent, yearly checkup. It seems I may have Type 2 Diabetes. I have to have another blood test. It kinda ruined my day.

I have been kind of melancholy since that phone call. I know it is not that big a deal at this point, but I'm not having a good day anymore. I have had to face my mortality. I'm not a kid anymore and I want to live to a ripe old age. On my mom's side of the family "old" is around 65. My mom was 60 but my paternal great grandmother was 104! I hope I take after my dad's side. He is 72 and still kicking.

I also have a vitamin D deficiency. I thought my bones hurt all the time because of my age and weight. I'm glad that is an easy fix. I can't wait till my legs stop aching! It is a bitch to get old!

Once again, it leaves me pondering What Happened?

  1. Sorry to read about the type 2 diabetes beast. :( Sometimes we need a little extra push to remind us why we chose a certain direction, perhaps this is yours and only a scare to remind you. I hope so!
As for the Vitamin D thing...you are the 10th woman I've known with this issue in the last 6 months. So I googled and found it's on the rise. We all need to get outside more, just a little, and allow our skin some sun exposure. Just your face ain't cuttin' it either... wear a tank top and shorts and go for a 20-30 min stroll or work in the backyard for that long twice a week. That's all. I hope you'll get your sun and enjoy the warmth on your skin...sunscreen won't block vitamin D, so slather it on if you need it. :)
I need to do the same.

  2. Ah, yes, I will be enjoying more sunshine for sure, if it ever shows itself again! We are expecting more rain but summer is coming. Yeah, the diabetes thing is an eyeopener and it has prompted me to get myself together and start making the right choices.
